In Orbit was founded to enable large-scale orbital research and manufacturing. Today, we are developing the next-generation of spacecraft for on-orbit operations and the return of cargo from space back down to Earth. To accomplish this, we are looking for an engineer eager to join a fast-paced team developing space services for a new orbital economy.
As an EDL engineer at In Orbit your work will be critical to lead our team to success. You will be responsible for the design, test, and validation of EDL systems as well as supporting decisions to improve the aerodynamic and thermal performance of the vehicle during the challenges of Earth re-entry.
- Leading the design of a capsule EDL system spanning preliminary analyses down to performance validation with ground tests and flight data
- Create thermal and aerodynamic simulations to drive engineering design decisions
- Work closely with hardware engineers to drive improvements to vehicle design
- Participate in prototype development and early testing campaign
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or physics
- Experience with programming languages such as MATLAB or Python
- Experience in CFD simulation tools (e.g. ANSYS)
Preferred Experience and Skills:
- Advanced degree in a relevant field
- 2+ years of experience working with space systems
- Strong understanding of orbital mechanics, and modeling and simulation of all flow regimes
- Familiar with composites and thermal protection systems for Earth re-entry
- Experience with CAD software (preferably SOLIDWORKS)
- Experience with hardware, rapid prototyping, and testing
- Able to independently identify and resolve complex problems
- Able to work in a fast paced and demanding environment
